Sunday March 1, 2009 from 10 am to 5 pm is Kite Day at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas
Presented by H-E-B, The City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department and The Exchange Club of Austin.
Free Shuttle Rides & Parking at two locations: Downtown at 1604 Colorado Street, State garage E and South at the Tony Burger Center at 3200 Jones Road Shuttles begin at 10am (last one leaves park at 5:30 pm)

1990 me, whiteley and a bunch of other drunks made a giant delta kite out of 2x4s, poly-sheeting and a cinderblock for a tail. and tied it to the winch of a jeep.
it flew well, with rope. but! if it broke, it would have defintely hurt someone.
that was my only kite festival
which is weird, as I like building and flying kites.
I actually WON the 'highest flying kite" in boy scouts, with a kite still hanging in my room in longview, made of 2 sticks, and? white garbage bag with the names of new wave bands written all over it in sharpie markers....
