The Ow That Keeps on Hurting

My son recently bumped his head and split his forehead open. No stitches needed but it's been a nightmare - I butterflied it but forgot to apply antibiotic, so I got bullied into taking him to the ER 6 hrs later. The ER botched the Dermabond application so it got infected 2 days later, the Ped didn't remove the Dermabond but gave us antibiotics to kill the infection from the inside. He bumped it again a week later and reopened it (still under the Dermabond) but the Ped said at least there will now be a real scab. The Dermabond came off another week later and now, over 3 weeks since the initial accident, there is still a tiny scab. The scar needs to be covered from the sun for 2 years. We just got the bill from the ER and after insurance it's going to be over $900, although I'm planning on protesting the bill .
I feel guilty about it happening to him while I was out of the room. I feel guilty for not taking him to the Ped right away instead of taking care of it myself. I feel guilty for costing us all this money because I forgot to use some disinfectant/antibiotic. I feel guilty that he'll have a scar because I screwed up several times in a row.

Nothing New

Paul's head lac is healing as nice as can be expected - a tragedy of errors! Someday I'll stop mouthing off about it and write it down, but not today.

Giselle keeps getting sick because she keeps sticking her hands in her mouth to play with her wobbly tooth (no it's not THAT wobbly, but she is 5 and it's her first so I got to give her a break). She's on her second virus in 2 weeks. I guess we could stop going to all the music shows (Biscuit Brothers, Sara Hickman, Joe McDermott) so she would stop getting exposed but then she wouldn't be getting exposed (immunity building right?) and we'd be really bored since we can't go to the pool until Paul's head is better (talk about a cesspool of germs).

It's now 4 weeks later and Joe is almost all the way recovered from his wisdom teeth removal. No jokes about him being less smart now - I tried and he didn't laugh. He still has to irrigate the holes after every meal but he can drink cold raspberry tea again. He has to go fight our property tax appraisal tomorrow morning. I'll post more about that another time maybe.

I've felt burnt out regarding park day for several weeks - this will be the 4th one in a row that we've bailed on. Maybe it's the heat or maybe it's my kids or maybe it's the lack of other kids there to play with my kids. I don't know. I do know that my kids have not missed not going. The farmers market was sooo hot last week, I think it was hotter than usual 'cause I was sweating A LOT. We won't stay the whole time this week because my niece is in town visiting and I'm not going to put her through a whole day at the market. I guess I'll have to pay for my food this time instead of working for it.
A kid just woke up, gotta go!

My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean

Am I the only one in the world that remembers these hand movements to this song?

my - touch your chest
bonnie - embrace your self
lies - make a pillow with both hands under your head
over - draw a bridge in the air
ocean - draw waves in the air
sea - draw waves in the air
Oh - make a letter O
bring - gesture 'come'
back - pat your back at your shoulder
to - show two fingers
me - touch your chest

My bonnie lies over the ocean
My bonnie lies over the sea
My bonnie lies over the ocean
Oh bring back my bonnie to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back my bonnie to me, to me
Bring back, bring back
Oh bring back my bonnie to me

Giselle's first dentist appointment

Buttercup Dental - Welcome
Everything was great and she is all excited to go back again. Although it was a bit scary to see that Panorex machine go around her head - where is the research proving to me that this is or is not going to cause my little girl to get cancer in her head in 20 years? It was pretty neat to see all her current and future teeth all at one time even if it is not really a necessary procedure.
AND when she was getting ready to go to sleep, she noticed that one of her bottom teeth is a little wobbly! Last week we met a new friend at the pool. She is 2 months older than Giselle and she had just recently lost her first tooth so I figured and Giselle hoped that it wouldn't be long before she lost one too. I guess we were right.

Dermabond

Dermabond.com
This stuff is really just super glue (aka modeling CA) repackaged for medical use. BUT be sure to read the procedures for proper application! Our ER doc did not and subsequently I had a little boy crying to me yelling "OW, hot glue, hot glue!" while it cured. Poor little man!

Homeopathic Remedies for Teething

A very comprehensive list of the individual teething remedies. Sometimes it's better to go for individual remedies instead of the shotgun approach of compound remedies.
